2007 Cruiser Yachts 420 Express
Hin - US-CRSMEA01D607
Purchased 2012 - launched late 2017 after an extensive 5 year rebuild.
No expense spared on the build as this was to be my “last” boat that I keep forever - I have owned over 20 boats to date. However, my life has changed direction hence it’s time to move on.
Boat last on hard stand September 2024 – antifouling removed down to the copper coat. Two coats of Carboline Seabarrier AF 3000. New anodes all around – prop shafts / trim tabs/ hull / engine heat exchangers / gen set heat exchanger / bow thruster.
Rebuild List:
Most items were a straight swap out for new - part number for part number where possible to ensure build compatibility / originality.
The exceptions –
The original propeller shafts had some erosion – so were upgraded to 1-3/4” shafts – originally 1-1/2”.
The hull was soda blasted down to gelcoat and multiple coats of 2 pack epoxy CopperCoat was applied.
In 2021 I went back to conventional antifouling on top of the Coppercoat as Seabarrier 3000 antifouling to be much more effective in Western Australia to limit marine growth. The added advantage being if the standard antifouling wears away, the Coppercoat is still present. Which also acts as a hull barrier coating.
Engine bay:
New - USA import - x 1 Volvo Penta 8.1 GXi-G with new transmission / V drive & associated hardware.
New - USA import - x 1 Volvo Penta 8.1 GXi-G with new transmission / V drive & associated hardware.
The exact same size / style / transmissions ratios were used as the originals.
The full engine service / repair manuals come with the boat.
Both transmissions have had their 30-hour service. Their next service is due at 300 hours.
2024 – exhaust / exhaust system was upgraded to stainless steel Marine CMI Big Tube headers.

All new engine wiring harnesses to the driver’s console – bypassing the Cruiser Yachts (CY) control pad straight to “keys” – more reliable. The CY pad is now only used for the lights etc. Its code is 0000 ( four zeros ) – but should not be required.
New drip seal assemblies installed – both sides. Also new cutlass bearings and engine couplings to suit the new 1-3/4” propeller shafts. 2021 – new drip seals were installed on both shafts – precautionary. Backup seals also in place on the shafts.
A low hour 6KW Kohler was sourced – currently at ~240 hours. Inside sound proofing box.
All components replaced on/in the hot water unit – engine bay – the only original part is the SS tank.

Engine hatch ram motors both replace with new motors and the gear arms serviced.
Engine hatch is now wired direct to the main house battery.
Hence all batteries can be switched to off when away from the boat and the hatch can still be lifted (assuming the battery is charged).
New bilge pumps – 1 engine bay and x 1 front next to bow thruster battery.
New second fuel filter installed – now two inline.
The outer fuel filters have new water sensors installed (2021). That’s the small black buzzers you see next to the batteries in the engine bay.
